We have investigated ageing mechanisms and heterogeneities that appear in 18650 LFP/graphite battery cells under extreme fast charging conditions. Multimodal analysis, including x-ray nanotomography, indicate formation of a solid electrolyte interphase at the anode surface with a geometry that mirrors the electrode tab size and shape, leading to premature battery failure
