The new in situ 4D imaging tool developed on the ID16B beamline at the ESRF brought an unprecedented combination of nanometer pixel size and fast acquisition time at high temperature. The present performances of the technique will be described and illustrated through a few to examples such as the study of high temperature deformation into light alloys. Finally, new possibilities opened by the Extremely Brilliance Source upgrade program at the ESRF will be discussed.
